Vincenzo Colapietro Dear Dr. Ascough, I just wanted to write and let you know what a positive experience it has been working with you and your staff through the entire process of breast Enhancement surgery. It's been 6 weeks since my surgery and I've never felt better about myself! I really had no idea the boost to my self esteem this would be and I have you to thank for it! I also want to thank you for the excellent patient care that was given to me before, during and after surgery. It is refreshing to find a doctor who truly cares about his patients. It's so obvious by just the little things- from always making yourself available for questions or concerns, taking extra time to make sure I got just the right "look" I wanted, to the little silly jokes you tell to make me feel at ease. Sincerely, Dear Dr. Ascough, I was referred to you approximately thirteen years ago by a friend of mine. Two of her family members were clients of yours. She stated that they were extremely happy with the results of the surgeries you had performed on them. I came to see you for a scar revision on my leg. You informed me that any further surgery on the scar could actually make it worse. I was truly impressed with your honesty and professionalism. After that appointment, I recommended you to several friends and family members. They have all been extremely pleased with the results of the surgeries you performed on them. Several years later I became a surgical nurse. I have worked with many doctors of all specialties, including plastics. Whenever asked by my clients who I thought would be the best plastic surgeon for their specific needs, I have always referred them to you. Clients have often mentioned to me that they had appointments with surgeons for elective surgeries. I would emphasize that I felt they should consult with you before making a final decision. On many occasions these clients would call to thank me, and let me know they had decided to have you do the surgery. Obviously, they formed the same opinion of you as I had. This brings me to the reason I am writing this letter. Last week at school my six-year-old tripped, and his forehead was split open on a cement retaining wall. You were the first person I thought to call. Los Robles is the closest hospital to me, yet I did not want to have a surgeon unknown to me suture his wound. I have seen some awful scars, even by surgeons who specialize in plastics. I called your office and the receptionist told me you were on your way to a meeting. Dear Dr. Ascough, It has been almost one year since I had my cosmetic procedures done in your surgery suite. Thank you doesn't begin to express the depth of what I feel. When I had my first office consultation with you, I remember sitting in the chair and immediately saying "OK, look at my aging face and tell me what you can do". Your response to me was a gentle smile and you said, "That's not what I do; I need you to tell me what bothers you and we'll take it from there". Other plastic surgeons are overly eager to tell a patient what they need and how it should be done. Your approach, however, to first get a sense of where the individal is coming from was a welcome one indeed. You listened to me without my ever feeling rushed. I left that day knowing that it was you I was going to put my trust (and my face) with for surgery. On the morning of surgery I came knowing what to expect and what the next few days and weeks would bring. (You had explained it prior... and would continue to do so in the visits that followed.) What I did not expect, however, was the reaction of people. Ten days after the procedures I attended a birthday luncheon in a restaurant. Althought I clearly looked newly post-surgical, friends who were familiar with cosmetic surgery procedures commented that is was an incredible transformation and that I would see that as the swelling went down. As the days and weeks went by I enjoyed the results more and more. I would stare in the mirror with awed amazement at what looked back at me. During this past year, you made it clear to me that, in addition to the rountine office visits, I would be welcome to call you or come in if I had any concerns or questions. The sincerity with which you said that means a lot to a patient. The random reactions of my other physicians (including one who does cosmetic procedures) was phenomenal.
